Doctors Say Mandela Is Responding To Treatment

The South African presidency on Wednesday announced that doctors caring for former South African President, Nelson Mandela said he was responding to treatment for a lung infection.
Mandela, 94, was admitted to a military hospital in Pretoria on Saturday.
“He has made progress during the past 24 hours and the doctors are satisfied with the way he is responding to treatment,” said presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj, who was imprisoned with Mandela in the 1970s.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner was hospitalised in 2011 for an acute respiratory infection.
In the 1980s, while still incarcerated by the apartheid regime, Mandela suffered from tuberculosis and his lungs were said to have been damaged during years of hard labour in prison.

Mandela spent 27 years in jail for his leadership in the fight against white minority rule, or apartheid, and became South Africa’s first black president in 1994, stepping down after one term in office.
He retired from public life in 2004 and has not been seen in public since 2010.
The former president, admired for his key role in bringing democracy to South Africa and encouraging racial reconciliation, largely lives in his rural hometown of Qunu, in the Eastern Cape Province.
Visitors say that while his memory is lapsing, he is generally in good spirits.

A zoo baby’s birth usually causes a small, local frenzy. Those furry faces and clumsy, untested limbs effortlessly attract the media’s lens and the public’s affection.

Last Friday Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, N.Y., hosted the birth of a species more exotic to menageries. On Dec. 7, at 11 a.m., a 21-year-old woman delivered a baby girl near the zoo’s bear exhibit.
Zoo employees were quick to assist in the labor. They radioed for backup and assembled blankets. According to Rosamond Gifford Zoo Director Ted Fox, Liz Schmidt and Sarah Kohler, both first responders, were the first to arrive at the delivery. Schmidt attended the mother throughout the birth and checked the newborn’s vital signs.
When Liz Schmidt and Sarah Kohler arrived on the scene she was in full labor. Within minutes she had given birth to the baby," Fox said.
A member of the woman’s family called Onondaga County EMTs. The woman was rushed to the hospital following the delivery.

“The FCT Administration is partnering with the Churchgate Group to build one of the gigantic structures in Africa

The Churchgate group successfully negotiated the rights to the World Trade Center licence for real estate initiatives in the capital city of Nigeria; and now Abuja’s new landmark destination, that will be the commercial and residential jewel of Africa, has already commenced construction.

Churchgate has been a driving force of corporate activity in Nigeria for over 40 years; “the group has always reflected the spirit of the times” says Vinay Mahtani, Churchgate’s group Managing director. he adds; “and we are proud that the WTC Abuja will represent a true celebration of Nigeria’s economic progress”.

Churchgate has already developed and currently operates Churchgate Towers l & 2 on Victoria Island as well as the Churchgate Plaza in Abuja. The existing tenants that enjoy these luxury office spaces are amongst the Fortune 500 companies of the world. A Churchgate Tower 3 is in the planning stages for Victoria Island adjacent to its two sister towers.

Churchgate has also acquired a historical landsite on Victoria Island on which it intends on developing The Grand Hyatt Hotel and Residences. This 5 star hotel will be poised as one of the most important landmarks in Lagos. This former site of the Australian embassy is located adjacent to major roadways and the hotel will accommodate 400 upscale suites and 149 ultra luxurious residences; the residences will be grand in size and the proud owners will benefit from many of the hotel amenities and services that The Grand Hyatt will offer.

“The proposed building site for the World Trade Center on Constitution Avenue will be the premier address in Nigeria for retail, office space and residential” claims David Belinko, who is Churchgate’s Chief Marketing Officer. “The master plan provides for areas of public gathering, services and amenities unlike anything Nigeria has ever experienced and will rank amongst the most desirable locations to live and work on the continent”.
